JoAnn AlafrizFirst trained as a shiatsu therapist and then as an acupuncturist, I have been in private practice for well over 15 years. I developed my skills to treat the body and mind, and over time, I came to appreciate the body’s strong, innate ability to heal itself. In my practice working with women regarding their fertility, throughout pregnancy, labour and post-partum, I have found this to be especially true.

I have been privileged to learn so much from these women during this very special time in their lives. Every time I treat a woman during her pregnancy I am amazed at how powerful these simple and non-invasive treatments can be, how much improvement can be attained and how well women respond. It is remarkable how acupuncture can ease the mind and body during pregnancy thus making labour and delivery more efficient.

In my practice, I bring a wide variety of skill sets and modalities to my treatments. As well as holding diplomas in Acupuncture (Traditional Chinese Medicine) and Shiatsu, I also practice Japanese Acupuncture (apprenticing with the renowned Tak Tsurusaki for 2.5 years). I’ve worked closely with Claudia Citkovitz, LAc using Acupuncture in labour and delivery at the Lutheran Medical Centre in Brooklyn, NY. Currently I am studying how Traditional Chinese Medicine and in vitro fertilization can Improve Clinical Outcomes with Jane Lyttleton. I have also trained with the Upledger Institute for Craniosacral Therapy and The Barral Institute for Visceral Manipulation.

As a co-founder of Toronto AcuBirthing, Acupuncture for Pregnancy, Labour and Postpartum, I am excited and privileged to bring all my skills to help women throughout their pregnancy and beyond. I am a Registered Acupuncturist and a member of the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario.
